An Ode to Pisces Season
Welcome to Pisces Season
The sun has ingressed into the final sign of the zodiacal year, and as we in the Northern hemisphere are ensconced in the chilled and bitter air of late winter, we can access a process of simultaneous ending and beginning.
Pisces is one of the four mutable signs, mutable in Greek being “disomos” — double-bodied. While cardinal signs take initiative, and fixed signs build a solid world, mutable signs reveal to us the innate multiplicity of experience that lies behind, beside our hearts at all times.
The symbol of Pisces is that of two fish tethered together by a ribbon of stars, and the two fish swim in opposing directions. One fish to the north and one to the south, one swimming east, the other west. A hint, or reminder, of the circularity of life, the non-linear splay of time, of love, of creation, of healing, of learning, and the soul.
The Sun has entered the last sign of the zodiac, but we should not rush to the end of anything just yet. The next four weeks, from now through March 19th, are a critical phase in the unfolding of our paths. Pisces season is a time of un-tying the heavy knotted cords of the previous eleven signs, and as those old tethers fall away, we wrap ourselves in the healing satin ribbonry of imagination, compassion, and psychic sight.
As our hearts move with us through complicated days and nights, the sun’s movement through Pisces illuminates the vast simultaneity of experiences, of multiplicitous truths, of vast oceans of potential. Pisces reminds us that shadow does not lie beneath light, but is sewn through, like delicate thread punctuating the heavy felt of reality. Pisces asks us to understand that what binds us is far greater than what separates us, and from her salt-water comes the wisdom of oneness.
